Liverpool FC v Swansea City: Fellow managers phone Garry Monk to offer support through difficult time

Garry Monk is experiencing a difficult time
If Jurgen Klopp is enjoying his honeymoon period on Merseyside right now, Swansea City manager, Garry Monk, can only look on enviously really.
Embattled Monk takes his men to Anfield today looking for a much-needed result that many would assume is not on the cards right now. The Reds, under the charismatic German, are coming off the back of a brilliant win at Manchester City that exemplified all that is admired about the way Klopp operates.
In contrast the Swans are suffering. Just one win in their last nine league games has seen them sink down the table and Monk himself is on borrowed time according to many with last weekend’s battling draw against Bournemouth perhaps merely a stay of execution.
Monk insists his men are just a couple of wins, and good performances, from steadying the ship and he believes that can happen at Liverpool even if he rates Klopp’s men right now as potential title-winners in the not too distant future.
“Most people will say we don’t have a chance at Anfield. 99 per cent of people think it will be a win for them,” said Monk.

“That’s fine by us. The pressure is off the players even though we put pressure on ourselves. We need to go there and perform and focus on ourselves. That is all that matters.
“They will want to be title-contenders and that will be their expectation. He said himself though that maybe they need time to get to that level, whether it’s this season or next season, that is what they will be looking to work to. Whenever they appoint a manager the expectation is for them to be title-challengers. That’s how they perceive themselves.
“I’ve not met Jurgen, I know a few people who know him and he’s a very good manager and coach so it will be interesting to talk to him. In the end as a manager you have to show your true colours.
